Categorizing Your World

Play a fun game of categories with your child.

It is a wonderful thing to do when you are stuck waiting in lines at stores or in the car on a long ride. Think of a category like "toys," "pets," or "dads." The list of categories is endless so use your imagination!

Then, along with your child, identify items in the category. The object of the game is to fit as many objects into the category as possible so be creative with your explanations and invite your child to be so as well.

Can a shopping cart be a toy? Can a stuffed animal be a pet? Can a bird be a dad?

As your child gets familiar with the game, invite her to choose the category.
