PEEP Explorer's Guide

The PEEP and the Big Wide World Explorer's Guide, designed for early childhood classrooms, invites children and teachers to explore science in the world around them. Three units offer hands-on explorations that lead to rich science learning as well as lots of fun. Family Science letters extend the explorations into students' homes.

Unit 1: Explore Shadows – 3MB PDF
Outdoors, make shadows in the sunlight. Indoors, explore shadows with lamps and flashlights. The featured PEEP story is Night Light.

Unit 2: Explore Water – 2.9MB PDF
Indoors, use the water table to discover how water moves and the ways objects behave in water. Outdoors, explore puddles, raindrops, and waterways. The featured PEEP story is Fish Museum.

Unit 3: Explore Plants – 2.8MB PDF
Indoors, plant seeds and bulbs and track their growth. Outdoors, observe the trees and plants growing nearby. The featured PEEP story is Peep Plants a Seed.

The PEEP Explorer's Guide was piloted at fifty Head Start centers as a printed book with an accompanying DVD containing the PEEP television episodes Night Light, Fish Museum, and Peep Plants a Seed. These can be seen, rotating weekly, in Music & Videos as streaming Web video. These episodes are also available for purchase at the WGBH Shop as part of several video sets such as Peep and the Big Wide World, Peep and the Big Wide World Educational Set 1, Peep Finds, and Peep Floats.
