Observing Animals Indoor and Out

Invite your child to observe a wild animal or pet that you have access to. Squirrels are fascinating creatures to watch and can be readily found outdoors, especially during the fall. Observe the animal as it walks, moves, looks for food, and cleans itself. Does it play with other animals? Can you tell where it lives? Remember to be as quiet as possible when observing so you don't scare the animal away!

If you can't find any animals, look for signs that show where animals have been. Are there holes in the ground or places where animals have been digging? Any broken shells indicating that an animal has been eating? Can you hear any animal noises?
