Review the day’s explorations and ideas about water.

Show children the photographs/videos of their dams as well as the photos of the beaver dams from this morning. Show them some photos of human-made dams as well. Have children discuss the similarities and differences between beaver dams and human-made dams.  Ask, Why do you think a beaver might want to build a dam? (By damming water, beavers can create a still pond in which they can build their home, a beaver lodge. Creating a deep pond also helps protect them from some dangerous animals, who can’t swim as well as beavers.) Ask, Why do you think people build dams? (Some of the reasons are that dams create lakes, which can store water that people can drink and can use to grow vegetables to feed people).
