Directions

Before you read: Show children the cover, and read the title and author’s name. Ask, What do you think this story is about?

As you read: You may want to read the book straight through once. On a second reading, point out that in each picture, a family member plays music, and the little girl plays an instrument as well. Have children repeat the name of the instrument the family member plays, and point to it. Have children also point out the little girl, and repeat the name of the instrument she plays. Have children mimic the sound of each instrument.

After you read: Ask, which instruments did you see that you’d like to play? What were the different kinds of music that the girls’ family played? What kind of music do you like to listen to?
