Share the Day’s Discoveries

Review today’s explorations and ideas about ramps.

Show children the photos you took of their trackways earlier in the day. Encourage them to dictate words to go with the photos, explaining what they did, what they observed, and what they discovered. You can post the photo essay on your wall or bind it into a book. Ask children to point out the steepest part of their trackway and the least steep, or most gentle, part.

Have children compare their trackways. What’s similar about them? What’s different? Do all of them start high and end up low? Or are they different?  Do all of them start off steep and end up gentle and flat? Or are they different?

Ask children what they think the differences are between flat ramps and tube ramps. What can you do with a tube ramp that you can’t do with a flat ramp? Is one type of ramp easier to build?  Why do they think that?
