Explore and Play: I Spy

Can you spy different colors in the room?

Key Science Concepts

  • There are many different colors.
  • A single color can have different shades from very light to very dark.

Directions

Tell children they’ll play a guessing game with colors, called I Spy. In the guessing game, we’ll also describe colors, the way the boy in the video described his purple paint as grape and the girl described the pink as bubble gum.

  1. Model a few rounds:
    • I spy with my little eye something that is red like an apple.
    • I spy with my little eye something that is yellow like a sunflower.
    • I spy with my little eye something that is gray like a sidewalk
  1. Then have each child secretly choose a colored object in the room, and say: I spy with my little eye something that is ____ like a ________.  Have the group try to guess what it is.
